Sports Bra Fittings

Importance of a sports bra:

  • 75-80% of women wear the wrong size bra
  • A good sports bra that fits is essential for a safe and effective workout.
  • Only lasts 6-12 months; no birthdays for bras
  • Care for your bra-no softeners or dryer sheets and make sure bra closure is closed.
  • Sports bras are as critical as performance shoes.
  • Like footwear, a single bra style or brand does not fit all shapes and sizes of women.

Things to keep in mind when selecting a sports bra:

  • Choose a bra based on activity level.  Low Impact would be yoga, walking or weight training.  Medium impact would be hiking, power walking or elliptical trainer.  High impact would be running, soccer or tennis.
  • Shouldn't have to wear more than one bra to get the support you need.
  • Turn the bra inside out to see what is really doing the work during your workout.
  • Band (or underwire) is where the support starts.
  • Straps should be stabilized and wide enough to support the weight of the breasts and not put pressure on shoulders.
  • Completely fill the cup (no overflow or gaping in the cup).
  • Decide if you want encapsulation or compression, or a combination of both.
  • Bra should have moisture management properties, which reduces chaffing, and irritation.
