image1Nick Bussell and his wife, Katie Cooper, moved from Little Rock, AR to Pensacola almost 3 years ago with Nick’s company, Hank’s Furniture. They love to get out and be active whenever they can. Running, kayaking, paddle boarding, and whatever else they can get in to. The two of them also love going to the white sandy beach with crystal clear blue water with friends. If Nick and his wife aren’t out and about with their friends then they are with their two dogs, enjoying the day. Nick started running about 6-7 years ago and it has become a major part of his life. He has put in a lot of hours at a high-stress job, and being able to zone out during a run really balances him out.

Why did you start running?

“Before I turned 30 I decided to make a lifestyle change and get healthy. So I quit smoking and took up running. I hated it at first, but it quickly became my new addiction. I felt better physically and mentally.”

What is your favorite thing about training with Running Wild?

“Definitely the community vibe. Pensacola has such a wonderful running community, and Running Wild is right in the middle of it for me”

How has Running Wild helped you reach your goals?

“I didn’t run with many groups when I started running. Most of my miles were solo. Being able to run with the 6 at 6 group has helped me tremendously with my 5k and 10k times. I have to thank Mambwe and Christian Hiebel for inviting me and introducing me to such a great group”

What is your greatest (most favorite) athletic/running accomplishment to date and why?

“It’s weird, but the first time I decided to run in my hometown is one of my most memorable runs. I grew up in a very small town in Eastern Arkansas. About 5 years ago I was visiting for Thanksgiving or Christmas and wanted to fit in some miles. I just remember going out the door, and the next thing I knew I was completely on the other side of town. Really reminded me how small of a town I came from, and how far I’ve come.”
